April 2011

Old Man Winter did not want to give up his season this year!  I cannot believe that we had snow so late in the month.  I had already packed away all of the winter sweaters, snowsuits, and boots when another couple of inches was dropped on us!
This month, Alex started working from home Tuesday-Friday.  I thought that it would be harder than it has turned out to be.  It is really great for Eli and Lucia to have him around more through the day.  I know that Eli has really enjoyed getting to have breakfast and lunch with him each day.  I had thought that Eli would be the one causing trouble by yelling for daddy from the top of the stairs, but to my surprise, it has been Lulu that does that!  She stands at the gate, shaking it, and yelling “Dad-dad!”
Eli has taken an interest in learning French.  He has a buddy from school that had moved here from southern France in the fall.  They play so well together, but there is a language barrier.  After spending the morning playing at Louis’ house, Eli said to me, “I want to learn French so I can speak better with Louis”.  I have been able to teach him a smattering of phrases and animals.  This all makes me wish that I had paid better attention to Madame in high school!!!!
At the beginning of the month, a friend that I had met in Centering Pregnancy introduced us to “Sing, Play, Learn”, a program put on by the McPhail Center for Music.  McPhail travels around to the various Twin Cities libraries and offers a music-based early childhood class that includes singing, dancing, story time, and sometimes foreign language.  The kids have just loved these classes and their teacher, Miss Amanda.   It has been a wonderful experience that we hope to continue through the McPhail center, since their grant through the Legacy Foundation expires in June.
The end of the month was very busy for us!  Allergies have been awful, which is unfortunate considering that we have not had the nice spring weather to accompany it!  We suffered through Easter weekend, but were very grateful to get to spend time at Grandma and Pi’s house visiting with Uncle Benny and Great-Grandparents Miller.  After lunch there, we came home and had an Easter egg hunt with Grammy and the girls.  The weekend after Easter, we headed to Hayfield and visited with Uncle Mike and Aunt Candy, who were in from Connecticut.  It was Lucy’s first time meeting them!

Found an egg at Grandma and Pi's!
