Will you be my Valentine?
I apologize that this is my first 2012 posting. Life in the Miller household has been busy! I am hitting the books, Eli is ice skating, Alex is busy with work, and Lucy is just along for the ride.
Thanks to Pinterest, I have found a lot of inspiration for Valentines. (A "holiday" I never quite liked in the past. Once you have kids, I suppose it becomes a little fun.) Really, after this year, I just might not ever be able to go back to store-bought Valentines again! Being able to get Eli (and Lucy) involved in the production of the Valentine means so much more when it comes time to give them. Eli is super excited to share this year’s cards with his friends and teachers.
“Somebuggy Thinks You Rock!”
Eli loved the idea of a bug in a jar, but we could not find plastic bugs to attach and we were operating on a pretty tight schedule. Instead, we turned this year’s Valentine into a very fun craft. I did a search on Google images and found some neat Mason jar type clipart. I inserted a text box for the special Valentine’s Day message and printed them off on cardstock so they would be sturdy.
After cutting the Valentines out, I let Eli go to town creating his “bugs” out of pompons, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes. Playing off of the “You Rock” portion of the message, a package of Pop Rocks was affixed to the back of the Valentine.
This is the end result, and we are pretty proud. : )
"Thanks for Making Me Feel Like a Smartie!"
For Eli’s teachers, I went super simple. Using cardstock, I printed a simple message of “Valentine, Thanks for making me feel like such a Smartie!” In retrospect, I wish I would have said something more of “Thanks for making me such a Smartie!” I cut these to fix mini treat bags filled with packets of Smarties candies, and voila!
Happy Valentines Day!!!
