A New {Green} Adventure

Our family has been granted the opportunity to work in Eli’s elementary school’s Community Garden.  This will be our very first “in the ground” gardening experience – and we are all very excited!  This week has been incredibly busy preparing our family plot – tilling, working compost into the earth, transplanting plants, and sewing seeds.

Luckily, I have two exceptional little helpers. :) Minnesota has been good to us this week with very warm temperatures and abundant sunshine – so gardening has been therapeutic.  Nothing like the dirt of the Earth to feed the soul.  We have all come home each day covered in black gold and smelling like a daisy…well, something like that!  Thankfully the smell of the compost has not been too ripe!!!

In a couple months, this garden will be ready for harvest!  I am excited to use this experience to teach the kids about stewardship of the land and civic responsibility.  A portion of all that we grow will be turned over to the Eagan Resource Center for their "Garden to Table" program.
I am excited to continue sharing our new adventure with you as it unfolds!
Our plot: 7.5x24 feet
What we are growing: kale, spinach, rainbow chard, parsley, thyme, corn, watermelon, pumpkin, acorn squash, bush beans, pole beans, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, and marigolds. J
What’s next: waiting for signs of germination!!, watering, weeding.
Cheers!!
