Busy-ness As Usual Round These Parts....

Not meaning to complain too much, but really, doesn’t it feel more like September than June?  Fifty and sixty degree temperatures are not exactly what I expected after the long, cold, snowy winter we had this year.  Having said that, if September does turn out to be similar to this month I will be quite pleased.  I really do love this kind of weather….when it occurs in September. J

Eli in his element.
I never really got around to doing my monthly blog of May because May just got too busy! Eli wrapped up year one of preschool (which he was, and continues to be, sad about) and we went to the Henrich family farm for Memorial Day weekend. The farm is a very special place to Eli – he loves tooling around with Pi in the machine shed and is in absolute ecstasy when he gets to ride the tractors. This visit, Pi and Alex took Eli into town to the John Deere implement. We have spent the time since hearing stories about Eli in his past life, when he lived on a farm, drove tractors, and worked at the implement.

Pi, Eli, and Lucy.
Eli and Pi.
Lucy likes tractors, too!

Stephanie also came home from Iraq at the end of May for a little R & R.    This happened to coincide with a visit from Grandma Rosena and Aunt Tammy.  What a fun time to get to have so much family around!!!  Steph got to be home for a couple of weeks…we had a girls day and went and got pedicures.  We also spent a hot sunny day (one of the very, very few) at Kelley Park watching the kids play in the water works.  I know that it was hard for her to leave.  She kept remarking how much she was going to miss the “green”.  Ah, the things we take for granted.

Little Lucy is making developmental leaps and bounds. She is getting closer to swallowing food and fluids (aside from breastmilk, which she does not have a problem with). We have found a cup that she will take water out of.She loves turkey breast, mangos, and strawberries. We are at about three tablespoons of food a day (once again, aside from breastmilk, which she takes every two hours still). She has also started walking.Sometimes, when she is excited, she tries to run. This always results in a face plant.Eli’s toys are no longer safe. She climbs, too.Eli is beside himself with worry.

Eli started T-ball in June.  He had a ton of fun during the first practice.  Things since have fizzled out a bit.  I can see so much of me in him.  He, like his mama, certainly was not blessed with grace and he is afraid of the ball.  He takes his coaches literally.  When they told him he needed to make sure to touch each base as he came to it, he literally stopped, knelt down, and touched each base with is hand.  I love it.
My little guy. :)
Getting some instruction from his coach.

Alex and I have also been faring well. It is amazing how little it seems we can get done as we are consumed with racing about entertaining our kids. We are both extremely tired. We sat and laughed the other day because Eli had said that he “hates naps and will never, ever take them anymore forever”. Both of us had most likely uttered similar words. Maybe not as dramatic as Eli’s, though. J We laughed because naps are dreaded when you are four, but envied when you are parents. I told Eli to go to bed and to enjoy that nap because there will come a day when he will never, ever get to sleep anymore forever. That is how Alex and I feel now. Never, ever, anymore forever do we sleep. Or so it seems…and on that note, I am feeling tired, and so I will try to steal a few winks before my sleepless angels wake for the night!
