Making Summer Reading Fun

I have really pushed for Eli to read a lot this summer.  He has already logged over 300 minutes of out loud reading so far this summer and has been rewarded with an ice cream date with daddy and a movie date with mommy.  Incentive to read has definitely been a huge motivator...but letting him pick a good portion of the books he reads is another motivator.  (Right now, the big thing is Star Wars.)
Reading aloud to sister.
Reading outside.
The kids hijacked this packing box to read in before breakfast!
We also joined the Bookawocky program through the local library.  The program requires completing book reports - great practice for 1st Grade!!  We aim for two book reports a week.  This helps build story telling skills and lets me check how much of the story he is comprehending.  Plus it gives Eli lots of writing practice.

Cheers!
