Trouble In Paradise

The thoughts of a super lush, amazingly fruitful first-ever garden were looking too good to be true.  And come the end of July, they proved to be too good to be true.  So today I packed up all of my garden-problem-correcting goodies and trekked over to Eagan for a few hours.
Problem #1: Powdery Mildew
I will admit that the squash and melons I planted have not been looking great from the get-go.  They are far smaller than the plants in other plots (even the from-seed squash planted only a few weeks ago!!).  They were flowering, but just not getting big.
Then I noticed the communal squash plot turning black...this spread over several other plots all the way back to my plot in the very back of the garden.  The leaves that have not yet turned black and stinky have little white patches on them.
This, folks, is powdery mildew and it ruins your squash plants.
Powdery mildew needs to be treated with a fungicidal spray.  We garden organically, so I opted for an all natural spray consisting of baking soda, water, and all-natural dish soap.  I actually mixed up 5 gallons (I should have done more!) and all of the squash plants in the garden (which is a lot!).  I also cut back the super moldy leaves and disposed of them in the garbage.
Problem #2: Japanese Beetles
Between these little suckers and the deer, my pole beans are pathetic.
See...
Terrible.  This is what the leaves look like when the Japanese Beetles arrive.
A neighboring gardener actually sprayed my plants with Neem Oil and it helped, but today, armed with a jar of very soapy water, I hand picked the remaining beetles off of the plants and dropped them in the soapy water where they died instantly.  Mean, I know, but I am really sick of the havoc they are wreaking on the garden!!
Problem #3: I have no idea what is wrong with my tomatoes...do you???

Hope your gardens are growing greener than mine!!
Cheers!
